Here are the top 3 stories in Las Vegas today:

  1. On Sunday, a Las Vegas man opened fire at a church in Southern California, killing one person and injuring five others. David Chou, 68, was suspected of murder and five counts of attempted murder for his violent actions at the Irvine Taiwanese Presbyterian Church's lunch reception in Laguna Woods. 2. Online shopping phenomenon SHEIN will be opening a pop-up store in Vegas this weekend! The event will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. this Friday, May 20, through Sunday, May 22 at Resorts World. The event will showcase clothes perfect for any occasion and vacation this summer. Reservations will be taken online, and there will be a standby line as well. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
  3. A 23-year-old Las Vegas woman, Anniajah Pratt, has been arrested for stealing $100,000 worth of cash and valuables from a Las Vegas Strip hotel room. Police noted in Pratt's arrest report that the victim who reported the theft was distraught after $50,500 in cash, as well as his Patek Phillipe watch — which was worth $50,000 — went missing from his hotel room. After conducting a search of Pratt's apartment, they did not find the missing money or watch, but police arrested her because she was the only person who had access to the room. Pratt will be appearing in court again on Jun. 13. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)

Are you a Las Vegas resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
