Here are the top 3 stories in Las Vegas today:
- Lots of people are moving to Las Vegas, according to a report from the Penske truck rental company. Remote work has made relocation possible for workers, and Penske's data shows that Las Vegas ranks second in its list of top moving destinations for 2021. The influx of new residents has led to a spike in housing prices in southern Nevada. (Las Vegas Sun)
- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says a growing number of middle schoolers are trying fentanyl, and the department is concerned the problem will increase during the summer months. Police are finding deadly amounts of fentanyl in the drugs coming into the country, and teens take them, thinking they are prescription pills. With summer approaching, LVMPD has created a social media campaign to warn teens about the dangers of taking pills not prescribed to them by a doctor. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
- The Nevada Donor Network and the Latin Chamber of Commerce have launched 'Corazon de Esperanza,' or 'Heart of Hope,' in order to educate Latino and other populations on the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donors. In Nevada, there are over a hundred Latinos on the transplant waiting list, and medical data indicates there is a better chance for a match between a donor and recipient who share the same ethnic background. The goal of the initiative is to dispel myths surrounding organ donation and increase the number of registered donors across the state. (KTNV 13 Action News Las Vegas)
