Hello, people of Las Vegas! It's me again, Dominique-Noelle Rafael, your host of the Las Vegas Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 63 Low: 43.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. This week, city officials and tech firms held a showcase at the International Innovation Center to unveil Las Vegas's progress on the road to becoming a "smart city." Presenters shared what has been done so far to reach the city's goals for 2025, including a "digital twin" of Las Vegas developed by Cityzenith to track real-time metrics collected from sensors around the city. These camera and audio sensors will help city officials catch and repair infrastructure issues sooner, reduce emissions and operating costs, and even cut down the number of accidents throughout the city. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
  2. A deadly New Year's Eve crime spree in Las Vegas may have been a continuation of activities that started on Dec. 30, according to new information from city authorities. Jesani Carter and Jordan Ruby were spotted in a vehicle on the 31st driving to three different parking lots and shooting at people. Court documents indicate that Carter was seen in the same car the day before in connection with an armed robbery at the Wynn hotel-casino. Both suspects are currently in jail on murder charges for killing two people during their shootings. (KTNV Las Vegas)
  3. A person who charged at a police officer with a knife in east Las Vegas valley was fatally shot, says Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. On Thursday morning, officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 6700 block of Frances Celia Avenue, where they found a suspect who refused to comply with verbal commands. One officer discharged his weapon and struck the suspect when they produced a knife and ran toward the responding officers. No police officers were hurt in the incident, which is currently under investigation by the LVMP. (News3LV)
