🌱 Pawn Shop Traffic Increases + Vegas Counselor Goes To Ukraine
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Las Vegas.

Morning, everybody! I'm back with your fresh edition of the Las Vegas Daily. Keep reading for everything you need to know about what's happening around town.
First, today's weather:
Breezy in the afternoon. High: 98 Low: 76.
Here are the top three stories in Las Vegas today:
- With inflation continuing to impact households across the country, more people in the Valley are turning to local pawn shops to make ends meet. According to Andy Zimmerman, CFO of Gold & Silver Pawn on Las Vegas Boulevard, residents and visitors alike are coming in to sell and pawn items like jewelry and precious metals. Zimmerman reports that staff initially expected this trend at the start of the pandemic, but found some visitors flush with stimulus cash and using the funds to buy secondhand items. (News3LV)
- A Las Vegas high school counselor is headed to Ukraine with suitcases filled with donations. Jeanne Wardle, who works at Chapparal High School, previously lived in Ukraine as a church missionary. Later this month, Wardle will fly into Poland to bring the suitcases to those in need. She reportedly plans to live and volunteer in the area afterward. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
- A man was found dead inside a south Las Vegas valley apartment after "continuing to intermittently discharge a firearm," leading to a barricade. On Thursday morning, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the scene; SWAT units and crisis negotiators reportedly responded and tried to deescalate the situation. According to LVMPD, authorities ultimately entered the home, where the man was found unresponsive and suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. (News3LV)

Are you a Las Vegas resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
