The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Las Vegas.
Hey, friends! It's Friday in Las Vegas and I'm back in your inbox with everything that's fit to print about what's happening locally.I'll get right to it.
First, today's weather:
Record-tying heat. High: 114 Low: 91.
Here are the top three stories in Las Vegas today:
- The latest Q2 report from Las Vegas Sands indicates that the pandemic is still affecting the casino. The casino company pointed to Asian countries' pandemic restrictions as increasing operating losses while decreasing revenue, specifically citing restrictions in Macao and Singapore. The company still has a reported $15.35 billion in outstanding debt. (Casino.Org News)
- The Las Vegas chapter of the NAACP has stated its support for local Judge Erika Ballow. The judge has been under heavy criticism for being "anti-police" since the police union asked her to resign. According to the Las Vegas NAACP, the judge's words "reflect the grim reality for African Americans in Clark County." (Casino.Org News)
- Although Nevada gas prices are still well above the national average, per-gallon rates for Las Vegas residents continue to decline. The national average for a gallon of gas is currently $4.46; Nevada's average $5.22. Clark County residents are below the state average at $5.13 a gallon — 44 cents lower than June's prices.
