Here are the top three stories in Las Vegas today:
- One man is dead after a shooting in Las Vegas on Thursday morning. According to police, the man was in a fight with another man around 3:15 a.m. on the 5300 block of East Tropicana Avenue when the shots were fired. The victim was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. As of Friday afternoon, the suspect has not been arrested. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
- Despite rough waters, the ship will remain steady, according to a local economist. Brian Gordon, Principal Analyst at Applied Analysis says that an economic slowdown is coming, but he doesn't anticipate anything like 2008's "Great Recession." The city of Las Vegas felt deep economic hardship during that time, where the median price of a home in the city fell to $118,000. Gordon says that the likely upcoming recession will be more of a "soft landing." (Las Vegas Sun)
- No sinkers here! Dozens of kids in nearby Henderson broke a Guinness World Record on Thursday. The kiddos got together as part of a global effort to coordinate the world's largest swimming lesson. The last record for World's Largest Swimming Lesson was set in 2014 with 36,564 swimmers. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
