🌱 Rent Control Ballot Initiative + Forklift Driver Dies In Accident

Here are the top three stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. On Wednesday, the Culinary Union launched a ballot initiative to cap rent increases in North Las Vegas. Leaders of the union describe recent price hikes as "unrelenting." The proposal would tie maximum rent increases to the North Las Vegas Consumer Price Index. Rents in Southern Nevada across the board have risen more than 34 percent year-over-year.   2. Concerned about water? You're not alone. The driest state in the nation is facing a greater water shortage than usual this year. Daniel Rothberg of the Nevada Independent breaks down some important information about what's happening with water in Las Vegas, and Nevada as a whole, at the link. (Patch)
  3. One man is dead after a workplace accident involving a forklift on Thursday. According to police, the incident occurred just before midnight in a warehouse on the 3000 block of North lamb Boulevard. The forklift driver tipped the vehicle over and was killed in the accident. An investigation is ongoing. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)

  • Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded yesterday morning to a fire at 8760 La Sundora Circle. The fire extended to the house but did not get inside. No one was injured. (Facebook)
