- Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk will celebrate his birthday with a special weekend-long bash in Las Vegas during 'Weekend Jam.' The event will feature live music from a lineup of musicians who played the background for several famed skating competitions and video games, food trucks, several skateboarding events, and more. The bash takes place May 12-14 at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center and tickets range from single-day GA at $49.50 to 3-day Platinum VIP at $249.50. (News3LV)
- Downtown Las Vegas is preparing to welcome a resurrected convention industry back to town. In September, Circa Resort & Casino intends to debut about 35,000 square feet of convention space — a significant chunk of what Downtown has to offer. Right now, only the Downtown Grand (46,000 square feet) and Golden Nugget (40,000 square feet) have more in terms of meeting space than what Circa will offer, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. - A Las Vegas family therapist is weighing in on the trend of school violence seen in Clark County schools. Family therapist Dr. Sheldon Jacobs is the vice president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and also serves on the board of Hope Means Nevada, a peer-to-peer counseling group where Nevada teens help other teens cope with mental health struggles. He believes that the past two years of the pandemic upended many people's lives like an earthquake, exposing students to a lot of trauma. Now, as Dr. Jacobs puts it, the students are facing the tsunami from that earthquake. (News3LV)
