(Patch Media)

Hello, everybody! I'm back in your inbox this morning with everything you need to know about what's happening in Las Vegas.I'll get right to it.

First, today's weather:

Windy, then blowing dust. High: 103 Low: 75.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. Vegas City Opera is honoring Juneteenth this weekend at the Charleston Heights Art Center. It will be an immersive concert experience that pays tribute to Black Swan Records, the first Black-owned and operated record label. The 75-minute concert will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are on sale for $25. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
  2. Are you looking for a new feline friend? Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions has got you covered. In honor of Adopt a Cat month, they are waiving all adoption fees on cats 12 months and older. This deal will only last from Jun. 22 to Jun. 26, so make sure to drop by their adoption center soon. All these little, furry friends are "spayed or neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and microchipped." (KTNV 13 Action News Las Vegas)
  3. Last Friday morning, a crash took place on State Route 160 near Clark County mile marker 14. According to reports, the white Western Star tractor-trailer was speeding on the highway. Soon after, it overturned while the driver tried to navigate a curve on the road. Unfortunately, passenger 32-year-old Raul Chagollan was pronounced dead at the scene. Currently, the driver is facing a DUI charge. (News3LV)

Are you a Las Vegas resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
