The last day for public swim at Idlewild Pool will be Sunday, October 4, 2020. There will be some private afternoon swim team practices next week, but the pool is effectively closed to the public for the season after Sunday, due to the reopening of the pool at Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center (EMNECC).

The EMNECC indoor pool will reopen to the public on Monday, October 5, 2020 with the first lap swim session starting at 7:15 a.m. To reserve a swim time, contact EMNECC (775-334-2262) or Northwest Pool (775-334-2203).

The pool at EMNECC had been closed to allow for a Replaster and Retile Project, a Capital Improvement project that was approved by the Reno City Council on May 27, 2020. The plaster and tiles in the pool at EMNECC were in need of replacement. There were broken tiles, significant cracks in the plaster and other areas in need of patching or repair. On average, replastering of pools should be completed every 10 years.

Replastering serves two main purposes: structural and aesthetic. Pool plaster can be stained from weather, mineral deposits, and fading. Applying a plaster coating keeps the cement beneath, and any reinforcement steel, protected from the effects of water. Plaster is important to maintaining the integrity of an in-ground pool structure.
