Nevada Catholic churches open doors amid northern Nevada wildfires (christianpure.com) — With a major wildfire still burning near Reno and about 90,000 residents displaced, local Catholic churches and Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada are stepping up to shelter evacuees and plan long-term aid. From opening St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral and Holy Cross in Sparks to expanding food pantries and case management, they're preparing to help lower-income families and seniors rebuild once evacuation orders lift.

Monday Afternoon Update: Hawk Fire Claims at Least 32 Homes (ground.news) — Crews are finally gaining ground on the Hawk Fire burning in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Reno, with containment up to 27% and no new growth since Sunday. Containment has reached 27%, but officials still worry that wind and dry brush could push flames toward Reno's dense, newer neighborhoods. Local leaders, including Mayor Hillary Schieve, describe the fire's rapid spread as unlike anything they've seen.
