Father Who Tied Up Son, Left 2 Children in Feces, Gets Prison Time

Police: James Grenier, formerly of NH, was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison on child endangerment charges.

MANCHESTER, NH — A former Manchester man was sentenced to up to 30 years in prison on child endangerment charges after police found his two young children in a deplorable apartment in November 2016, according to police. James Grenier, currently of Bradford, MA, was sentenced in Hillsborough Superior Court-North on April 7, 2017, to two consecutive sentences of 10 to 20 years.

Last year, officers were sent to Quirin Street to check on the condition of a man and two children residing in an apartment in the building. They spoke with the father of the children – Grenier – outside of the apartment and he reportedly stated he was not in danger of harming himself. The officers asked to check on the children and were allowed to, according to a press statement at the time.

Officers found the children in “extremely unsanitary and unsafe conditions” surrounded by “feces in the bedrooms, as well as the beds the children were sleeping on.” A boy was harnessed to his bed while both the boy while a girl was unclothed. Both were covered in feces, police reported at the time.

The deplorable conditions and diligence of the officer led to the strict sentencing, according to Lt. Brian O’Keefe of the Manchester Police Department.

“Essentially, (Grenier) will serve a mandatory minimum of 15 years and may serve up to 30 years for his actions,” he noted.
