PHOTO GALLERY: PHS Runs Away From Bedford in State Finale

Bedford keeps game close early, but Portsmouth pulls away in second half.

Led by 120 yards and three touchdowns from running back Billy Hall, the Portsmouth football team won its first state title in 30 years with a 41-6 triumph against host Bedford in the state finale.

The win caps a four-year run for the the Clippers in which they reached the championship game each season, only to fall to perennial Division III champ Souhegan the previous three seasons.

Simply reaching the game, for Bedford, was quite an accomplishment. After all, the Bulldogs, in their fourth varsity season, won two games combined their first two years of play.
