According to an alert, officers were sent to Somerville Street around 10:15 a.m. for a report of a fight. Another teen told police that Joel Martel, 18, of Manchester assaulted him, according to Heather Hamel, the public information officer for the Manchester Police Department.

"The victim was able to get a metal baseball bat and hit Martel several times, but he continued to assault him," Hamel said. "The victim told police he then fired his own gun into the floor in order to scare Martel off. He was able to get out of the apartment."

Hamel said it was unclear if Martel was still inside the apartment so the SWAT team was deployed to check. Not long after, the scene was cleared. Police then issued a warrant for Martel's arrest on a second-degree assault charge.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact police at 603-668-8711 or the Crime Line at 603-624-4040.

Martel was out on bail after being arrested on felony criminal threatening-deadly weapon and simple assault charges due to an incident in Manchester in June. He was arraigned July 7 and had a disposition hearing in that case Aug. 3. Martel is due back in Hillsborough County Superior Court North for another disposition hearing.
