Snow Days Are Piling Up

Following last week's rare October snowstorm, , SAU 25 students have now missed four days of school. Generally speaking, snow and emergency days don't begin to pile up until January, when New England winters tend to blanket the Granite State with heavy white powder.

While other school districts, such as Merrimack, such as making up missed school days on scheduled vacation days, Bedford High School Principal Bill Hagan said Bedford is not currently considering those types of actions.

"We have to make up the days we miss, so what the state of New Hampshire requires you to do is when you design your calender, you have to build in 10 snow days or emergency days," said Hagan. "Anytime you miss one, you have to make it up on the other end, so it's only for the purposes of building the calender with placeholders so you don't run into July, which obviously would cause all kinds of problems."

Bedford High School's graduation date is currently set for June 9, though Hagan noted more missed school days may cause that date to be moved back.
