Speed a Factor in Fatal Route 101 Crash

NHSP: Fremont man driving a pickup was killed, Bedford man in an Audi injured in two-vehicle accident in Candia this morning.

CANDIA, NH - New Hampshire State Police have released the name of a man who was fatally killed when his pickup truck rolled over on Route 101 east in Candia on April 8, 2016.

Joseph DeKorne, 43, of Fremont, sustained fatal injuries after his 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup truck struck another vehicle, rolled over, and crashed in the middle of the eastbound lanes of the highway at around 7:30 a.m. this morning.

Candia Fire and Rescue teams and state troopers arrived at the scene and found the pickup truck on its roof and an Audi A-4 in the center media facing westbound. DeKorne, according to Sgt. Steven Wheeler of the NHSP, did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Audi – a 31-year-old Bedford man – sustained minor injuries and was transported to Elliot hospital in Manchester. He was treated and released.

“Based upon the initial on-scene investigation, it appears that the Dodge pickup was traveling eastbound on NH Route 101 at a high rate of speed when the operator lost control, struck the Audi, and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof,” according to Wheeler. “Due to the collision, Route 101 eastbound was closed for approximately three hours and traffic was detoured off Exit 3 while the scene was investigated and debris cleaned up.”

At the request of the initial responding units, the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, (C.A.R.) Unit responded to the scene, Wheeler noted. They were assisted on scene by members of the New Hampshire State Police-Troop A, the Candia Fire/EMS Department, New Hampshire Department of Transportation and The Office of the State Medical Examiner.
