Speedway GM Pleads Guilty to Lewdness

Jerry Gappens, the GM of the NH Motor Speedway, was arrested in January with a teen in Manchester; apologizes to his family, employer.

Jerry Gappens, the general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, pled guilty in court today on a lewdness charge after being arrested with a teenage woman in Manchester in January.

Gappens entered a plea of guilty on April 2, 2015, to a Class B misdemeanor count of lewdness for conduct that occurred in the interior of a vehicle behind darkened windows but in a publicly accessible parking lot, according to Jeffrey Hastings of Frame of Mind Photography, who was in court earlier today with other reporters.

Gappens was arrested on Jan. 21, 2015, in a parking lot of Hanover Street, inside his Toyota Sequoia SUV with Kendra Johnson, 19, of Manchester. Police had been patrolling the area in an effort to clamp down on “illicit activities” in those areas of the Queen City.

After the plea, Gappens took responsibility for his actions and apologized to his wife, family, and employers “for the hurt and the public humiliation” that his “uncharacteristic behavior” caused them. He is still employed by the racetrack, he said, and would continue to stay on. Gappens has been working in the NASCAR business for about 15 years, according to his online profile.
