138 mph on I-89 Leads to Charges Against Manchester Man

NHSP: Jonathan Azar was arrested this morning for reckless driving in Hopkinton.

HOPKINTON, NH - A local man is facing a single driving charges after reportedly being clocked going 138 mph on I-89 north, according to state troopers.

Jonathan Azar, 27, of Manchester, was arrested on May 3, 2016, and charged with reckless driving.

According to state police, a trooper in the air was monitoring traffic on I-89 when he spotted a car driving north, allegedly at an “extremely high rate of speed.” The vehicle – a 2009 Infiniti G37 – was allegedly clocked at 138 mph in a 65 zone, according to a report.

The trooper in the air radioed to a ground unit that later pulled the vehicle over and arrested the driver, Azar.

Azar is due in Concord District Court on June 24.

The NH State Police Special Enforcement Unit regularly interdicts elevated speed violations and other aggressive driving behaviors, according to Capt. Matthew Shapiro of the NHSP. Its members patrol across the state often utilizing the State Police aircraft during commuter traffic periods and holiday travel times with the goal of keeping New Hampshire’s roadways safe for all residents and visitors.
