2.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits New Hampshire's Lakes Region
A small earthquake was reported in the area of School Street not far from Exit 20 on Interstate 93 Sunday.

TILTON, NH — Another albeit small earthquake hit central New Hampshire Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The 2.1 magnitude quake hit at 1:46 a.m. UTC or 8:46 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The earthquake had a depth of about 5 kilometers, according to officials.
The earthquake was reported in the area of School Street not far from Exit 20 on Interstate 93, at the intersection with Route 3.
This is the first earthquake of the year for the state. The most recent quake before this one was a 1.9 magnitude earthquake in Salem reported in late November.

While New Hampshire is not known for having earthquakes, there have been a number of them during the last decade. Since 2011, earthquakes have been reported numerous times in central New Hampshire including Boscawen, Concord, Contoocook, Hopkinton, Sanbornton, and Warner. Other earthquakes have been reported in East Kingston, Exeter, and Plymouth, too. Earthquakes in Maine and Virginia have also reportedly been felt in New Hampshire, according to previous press reports.
