Alleged Domestic Violence Incident Led To Multi-State Chase
Breaking: Gregory Coffey of Warwick, RI, faces numerous charges in three states after allegedly stabbing himself during a NHSP pursuit.

CHELMSFORD, MA — More charges have been issued against a Rhode Island man who was arrested this morning after a chase that began in Vermont, traveled through New Hampshire, and ended in Massachusetts, according to police. Gregory Coffey, 32, of Warwick, RI, was arrested on June 11, 2017, on three fugitive from justice counts, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, operating recklessly to endanger, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and giving a false name to police. At just before 3 a.m. this morning, Chelmsford Police were informed about a pursuit involving the New Hampshire State Police – an allegedly armed operator of a stolen vehicle who was a fugitive and might be intoxicated – according to police.

“The pursuit crossed the state border and was joined by Tyngsborough Police near Middlesex Road in that community,” he noted. “Chelmsford Police units positioned themselves on Tyngsborough Road to monitor the pursuit and assist if necessary. The suspect's vehicle eventually became disabled near Vinal Square in Chelmsford. When officers found Coffey, he was suffering from what were determined to be self-inflicted lacerations, and an ambulance was requested.”
Coffey was transported to a Boston hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police noted that he was wanted after an alleged domestic incident in Hartford, VT. Currently, Spinney stated, Coffey is “under guard” and will be held pending treatment and arraignment.
