CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire Department of Safety’s Division of Emergency Services and Communications has named Martha “Marti” Dennerly its 2025 Telecommunicator of the Year, citing her years of service, leadership, and work handling emergency calls.

Dennerly began working as a 911 telecommunicator in 2003 and continues to support the state’s public safety answering points. In addition to taking emergency calls, she serves as a communications training officer, working with new telecommunicators, and is a member of the division’s quality assurance team.

“Marti exemplifies what it means to be a 911 telecommunicator,” Mark Doyle, the director of the Division of Emergency Services and Communications, said. “Her experience, calm demeanor, and willingness to mentor others strengthen our entire operation. She represents the very best of our team and the critical work our telecommunicators do every day for the residents and visitors of New Hampshire.”

Dennerly also volunteers to help organize activities for staff within the communications center. Officials said her role in emergencies has included providing instructions to callers during life-threatening situations. In the past 15 months, Dennerly has been credited with five confirmed cardiac arrest cases in which callers received guidance before first responders arrived.

“Our 911 telecommunicators are often the first lifeline during someone’s worst moment,” Debbie Bray, the chief of operations for the state’s 911 call centers, said. “Marti’s ability to remain calm, deliver clear instructions, and support callers through life-threatening emergencies has directly contributed to saving lives.”

The Telecommunicator of the Year award recognizes a member of the New Hampshire 911 team for service and leadership within the communications center and the public safety community.

Portsmouth Man Faces Charges After Chase

A man from Portsmouth was arrested on an array of charges after a chase with state police last week.

Dashawn L. White, 24, was arrested on April 9 on habitual offender and reckless conduct with a deadly weapon charges, all felonies, as well as disobeying an officer, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, operating after suspension, operating after suspension-subsequent, and breach of bail. He was also cited for misuse of plates and driving without giving proof.

Around 3 p.m., a state trooper attempted to stop the driver of a 2005 Buick LeSabre on the Route 1 Bypass, but the driver was accused of failing to stop. The driver continued north before turning onto Hodgdon Way and abandoning the car on Blue Heron Drive.

State police said the car’s plates were registered to another vehicle.

Troopers and Portsmouth police established a perimeter and deployed a K-9 unit and drones to search for the man. They spoke with witnesses and were later tipped off by a person, not involved in the matter, who reportedly gave the suspect a ride to Dover, after seeing him nearby and being asked for help. Dover police were called and found the suspect. White, however, attempted to flee from Dover police through several street but was captured later. He was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and, after being medically cleared, was taken to the Strafford County Jail. White was arraigned on April 10 on the charges.

Dover Man Accused Of Assaulting Trooper

A man from Dover was arrested earlier this month after an incident on Route 16.

Around 2 p.m. on April 2, a trooper was doing administrative work in their cruiser in a parking lot on Dover Point Road when a man reportedly approached the cruiser while holding a stick and a metal tool. The man was accused of becoming “verbally aggressive” and challenging the trooper.

The trooper attempted to identify the man and, while doing so, was punched in the stomach, a report stated. During the altercation, the trooper’s uniform was torn, and the man was accused of attempting to take his gun.

Eventually, the man, identified as Jonathan G. Newcomb, 53, of Dover, was brought under control and arrested on criminal threatening and attempting to take a firearm from law enforcement charges, both felonies, as well as driving while intoxicated, stalking, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, theft, and assault on a police officer. He was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The trooper was also evaluated at the hospital.

Newcomb was taken to the Strafford County Jail and arraigned the next day.
