Another Charge Issued After I-89 Drunk Driving Crash

NHSP: Daniel Cowdrey was arraigned on an additional count of felony negligent homicide yesterday after a RI woman was killed on May 25.

LEBANON, NH - An additional charge has been filed against a Vermont man who was allegedly driving drunk, in the wrong direction, on I-89 earlier this week, the led to the death of a Rhode Island woman, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Daniel Cowdrey, 38, of Hartland, VT, was arraigned on May 26, 2016, on aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and negligent homicide, both felonies.

According to state police, Cowdrey was reportedly driving north in a Subaru Legacy in the southbound lane of I-89 near Exit 20 when he allegedly smashed nearly head-on into a Nissan Versa, being driven by Ellynn Koelsch of North Kingstown, RI.

Koelsch perished at the scene; her 4-year-old son was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with serious injuries.

Cowdrey was arrested on May 25 and then, the next day, was arraigned on an additional charge of felony negligent homicide. He is being held on $25,000 cash bail after being arraigned in Lebanon District Court yesterday.
