Another Concord Homeless Camp Fire Reported Along Railroad Tracks

CONCORD, NH — Concord firefighters were sent to another homeless camp to extinguish an out-of-control campfire on Wednesday.

Concord fire and rescue teams were called to the railroad tracks behind Storrs Street along Interstate 93 at 6:30 p.m. after dispatch received several calls about a fire at an encampment. Ten days before, firefighters were in the same area for another fire.

"It sounds like it is a pretty decent size back there," dispatch said.

Before firefighters arrived, they requested Concord police to the area, too.

Engine 4 arrived a few minutes later, laid down a fire hose, and began attacking the fire. Firefighters also asked Pan Am rail to be contacted due to the hose being laid across the tracks.

Most of the firefighters cleared the area after about 15 minutes while a few stayed behind to "mop up," the battalion commander said, and douse the area with more water. At just before 7 p.m., the last firefighters left the area.

This was at least the third homeless camp fire in four weeks firefighters have been sent to in the capital city. About 10 days ago, firefighters were sent to the same area where a smaller fire was extinguished. About a month ago, was sent to a camp behind Shaw's Supermarket for another homeless camp fire.
