BOW, NH — A trucker from Bedford is OK after being rear-ended and rolling the propane truck he was driving Tuesday morning on the northbound side of Interstate 93.

Around 11:30 a.m., state police as well as capital region fire and rescue teams were sent to the area of Mile Marker 33 in Bow for a report of a truck rollover. When they arrived, they found a 2023 Freightliner truck on its side, leaking propane and diesel fuel, and a section of grass on fire. Tyler Dumont, a public information officer for state police, said a preliminary investigation determined Donald Filteau, 63, of Bedford, was driving the propane truck in the middle lane when he slowed down for traffic congestion.

“At the time,” he said, “several box trucks were parked in the right breakdown lane.”

As Filteau slowed, the truck he was driving was rear-ended by Utkir Rakhimov, 45, of Southington, Connecticut.

“The impact caused Filteau to lose control of the propane truck, which veered off the right side of the interstate and rolled onto its side,” Dumont said. “As a result of the rollover, a small brush fire ignited, and the tanker began leaking propane.”

Dumont said the exact amount of leaked propane was unknown, but the tanker was carrying about 128 gallons at the time of the crash. No one was injured due to the rollover crash.

Dumont said both sides of the highway were closed to ensure fire and rescue teams and others could access the crash scene. Troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Bow Fire Department, the Central New Hampshire Hazardous Materials Team, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, he said.

The crash remains under investigation and state police are asking anyone who may have seen the collision or has any information about it to contact Trooper Jacob Plourde at jacob.j.plourde@dos.nh.gov or 603-223-4381.
