BOW, NH — Both the southbound and northbound sides of Interstate 93 are closed to traffic due to a propane tanker rollover and multiple vehicles that have crashed on the northbound side of the highway on Tuesday morning, according to alerts and scanner chatter.

Around 11:30 a.m., Capital Region Fire Dispatch began sending firefighters and EMTs from Bow, Hooksett, and Allenstown to the area of Mile Marker 33 on the northbound side for a rollover report. Initial reports stated there was a fire and other vehicles that were crashing in the area due to the traffic backup.

A dispatcher said fuel was leaking from the truck, which was on its side. Witnesses also reported seeing brush on fire.

The first arriving firefighters confirmed the truck rolled on the right side of the highway over a guardrail. The commander also confirmed a grass fire and a second crash south of the rollover. A diesel fuel spill caused the fire, the fire commander said.

New Hampshire State Police closed down both sides of the highway.

State police sent an emergency text alert around 11:45 a.m., warning of the closed highway.

Around noon, a fire commander said the grass fire was extinguished. The truck, they said, was carrying about 150 gallons of vapor. Other fluids were reported, too, but firefighters did not know what fluids were leaking.

State troopers also stated they were attempting to clear sections of the highway to get traffic moving again.

According to scanner chatter, a hazmat team and another tanker were requested. The Hopkinton tanker was then sent to the scene.

Bow EMTs said there were no injuries connected to the other collision.

Several people were taken to Concord Hospital by ambulance.

Around 12:30 p.m., a representative of AmeriGas was reportedly heading to the scene.

Capital Region Fire Dispatch said at 1 p.m. southbound lanes and a single northbound lane were open.
