Box Truck, 2 SUVs Crash On Langley Parkway; 2 Drivers Sent To Hospital, 1 On Trauma Alert

A girl driving an SUV sustained traumatic injuries during a head-on crash with a box truck Tuesday. The road was closed for several hours.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police and fire and rescue teams were sent to a multi-vehicle crash on Langley Parkway on Tuesday afternoon.

Just past 4:15 p.m., police and fire dispatchers began receiving calls about a crash between multiple vehicles near Pleasant Street. Police dispatch received a 911 report stating the location was south of Pleasant Street. A witness told the 911 operator there was a woman who was badly hurt, and they were not responding to her. Police dispatch said there were three vehicles involved, including a box truck.

When police arrived, they closed the road down in both directions.

When firefighters arrived a couple of minutes after being dispatched, they, too, confirmed three vehicles involved with heavy damage, and one SUV was smoking. EMTs, less than a minute later, called for a trauma alert at the hospital, with a girl sustaining Status 2 injuries.

More firefighters were requested with better access tools since the SUV driver was stuck between the guardrail and the damaged right side of the vehicle.

“There’s no good access,” one firefighter said.

According to scanner chatter, an 18-wheeler truck was also directed to back up out of the road since it was boxed in due to the closed roadway.

An officer reported the box truck driver, a man in his mid-50s, complained of back pain but was OK, according to police. He was taken to the hospital later. The truck driver and the box truck were registered out of Massachusetts.

One SUV was identified as a Hyundai Santa Fe while the other was a Mitsubishi, also driven by a teenager. The parents of both SUV drivers arrived at the scene, according to police.

The girl was freed from the Hyundai and taken to Concord Hospital around 4:30 p.m. Officers were sent to the hospital to interview her.

Deputy Police Chief Barrett Moulton of the Concord Police Department said the box truck and the Hyundai sustained a head-on collision, according to investigators. The Hyundai was driving south on the roadway before the crash. Moulton said she is in critical condition at Concord Hospital.

New Hampshire State Police troopers also arrived in the city to assist police with other calls.

Concord General Services was also requested to the scene to post road closure signs. One officer stated that some drivers were trying to access the road through Dartmouth Hitchcock’s compound, complicating the effort.

Moulton said Langeley Parkway would be closed for several hours.
