CONCORD, NH — Concord police and fire and rescue teams were sent to a truck rollover in the North End of Concord on Friday night.

Just before midnight, police dispatch received a report of a flipped truck at the intersection of Penacook and Rumford streets. The truck, a utility box truck, was on one side.

When the first officers arrived, they reported the driver was conscious and trying to exit the truck but was trapped.

“He’s alert and talking,” one officer added, “but the door is locked … we can’t get him out. It’s on its side.”

Officers were asked if they needed more cruisers for traffic, but one said it was a wide street and they should be OK. Police did shut down Rumford Street.

Firefighters arrived and popped the windshield out, and the driver was able to get out of the cab of the truck.

According to scanner chatter, officers immediately sensed impairment issues with the driver. One officer told another, “you’ll want to put your head in the windshield and take a sniff.” The driver declined transportation by EMTs and other officers arrived to assist with an investigation.

The driver was taken into custody later and a tow truck was requested.
