Class 3 Fire Danger Issued for NH

High temperatures and dry conditions elevate Granite State fire dangers.

Alerts online are warning of elevated fire dangers today due to hot temperatures, dry conditions, and lack of rain around the Granite State.

The fire alert level was elevated to Class 3 – high – for the entire state at 8:30 a.m. on June 19, 2016.

According to the New Hampshire Division of Forestry and Land, a Class 3 designation means that fires could start in open areas and sunny slopes more easily and may spread rapidly.

Right now, most of the southern, Lakes Region, and northeastern parts of New Hampshire are under moderate drought conditions; the Seacoast and some parts of inland Rockingham County are seeing moderate drought conditions. The northern and northwestern part of New Hampshire are normal, according to forecasters.

While the state has not had as many brushfires as it had in the spring, there have been a few. Firefighters in Hampstead spent a good chunk of their day yesterday fighting three brushfires. There were also brush fires in Westmoreland, Auburn, Manchester this weekend, and Candia, Pelham, and Chesterfield late last week.

Relief though may be in sight since forecasters are predicting scattered showers in thunderstorms on Monday night and Tuesday.
