GRAY, ME — The National Weather Service has issued a "winter storm watch" for southern and central New Hampshire warning of a "complex storm system" expected to hit the state beginning Sunday. Low pressure and a warm front will approach the state during around 7 p.m. with snow and some sleet in the southern half of the state. The storm is expected to end around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The warning was issued at just before 3 p.m. Saturday.

"The snow and sleet may mix with freezing rain at times over southern New Hampshire Monday," according to forecasters. "A second and more widespread area of wintry precipitation arrives Monday night and Tuesday as low pressure develops over the mid-Atlantic then tracks along the New England coast on Tuesday."

Precipitation amounts and type remain "uncertain" at post time for Monday night and Tuesday "as the eventual track of the low will determine how much warmer air and mixing occurs," forecasters said.

The National Weather Service in its watch said snow accumulations of up to 8 inches could be possible with ice accumulations of at least one-tenth of an inch. However, AccuWeather.com is predicting between 12 to 18 inches of snow for most of southern and central New Hampshire with 6 to 12 inches from Nashua and the Vermont border.
