Concord Attorney Honored in Bedford

Hundreds attend Red Mass at Saint Elizabeth Seton Parish.

More than 200 women and men associated with the study and administration of justice attended the annual Red Mass celebrated at Saint Elizabeth Seton Parish in Bedford on Oct. 22.

The Rev. Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester, was the main celebrant for the Mass that affords the entire judicial, legal, law enforcement and legislative communities a chance to gather with those who administer law in the Church for an evening of prayer for strength and guidance in their respective work, according to a press statement. Monsignor Peter Vaghi, a priest of the Archdiocese of Washington and a lawyer who remains a member of the Bars in both Virginia and the District of Columbia, served as the guest homilist.

Following the Mass, the Catholic Lawyers Guild of New Hampshire honored Attorney Robert E. Dunn Jr. with the Saint Thomas More Award. Each year, the Guild presents the Award to a lawyer or judge who is a practicing Catholic and who embodies the spirit of St. Thomas More in his or her courage, dedication, integrity, civility, and compassion toward others. Attorney Dunn is Director of Legislative and Governmental Affairs with Devine Millimet in Concord. He received his undergraduate degree in Classics from the College of the Holy Cross and his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. Attorney Dunn began his legal career as an Assistant Attorney General in the New Hampshire Department of Justice and was then appointed by Gov. Judd Gregg to be the Assistant Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Safety. Among the clients he represents in Concord are the Roman Catholic Bishop of Manchester, New Hampshire Catholic Charities, and Catholic Medical Center. He is the tenth recipient of the award.

The Guild also honored Lt. Carlos Camacho of the Nashua Police Department with the inaugural Saint Michael Award. The Saint Michael Award was established by the Guild to recognize a practicing Catholic member of law enforcement who has demonstrated uncompromising integrity and moral character, displayed an outstanding degree of professional competence while always seeking justice, and served his or her community with distinction. After serving in the US Coast Guard, Camacho became a police officer in Houston, TX, until he was hired by the Nashua Police Department, where he has served since 1999. Lt. Camacho is an active volunteer at St. Monica’s School in Methuen, MA, a youth soccer and basketball coach, and a member of the Saint Monica Knights of Columbus. He is Chair of the RED (Racial and Ethnic Disparities) committee in Nashua, and serves as police representative on the Nashua Cultural Connections committee and Nashua Community Conversation on Race and Justice.
