Concord Bon-Ton Store To Close As Part of Restructuring: Report

Close to 50 stores across the country will be closing this year including the Steeplegate Mall location.

CONCORD, NH — While there are some interesting things happening at the Steeplegate Mall – like the opening of the Hatbox Theater – it appears more bad news is coming: The closing of the Bon-Ton Store. During the next 10 to 12 weeks, according to a company press release online, 47 Bon-Ton Stores, including the Concord location, will close. The stores are closing as part of a “store rationalization program” that was previously announced last year.

The closures are about 18 percent of the company’s total retail holdings which also includes the Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s, and Younkers nameplates.

“As part of the comprehensive turnaround plan we announced in November, we are taking the next steps in our efforts to move forward with a more productive store footprint,” said Bill Tracy, president and chief executive officer for The Bon-Ton Stores. “Including other recently announced store closures, we expect to close a total of 47 stores in early 2018. We remain focused on executing our key initiatives to drive improved performance in an effort to strengthen our capital structure to support the business going forward.”
