Concord Fire Extinguishes Another Homeless Camp Debris Fire Under Interstate 393: Watch

After receiving smoke reports, firefighters quickly extinguished a fire near The Friendly Kitchen off South Commercial Street.

CONCORD, NH — Concord firefighters and police were again sent to the homeless camp underneath Interstate 393 for another fire on Tuesday.

Around 4:30 p.m., capital region fire dispatch began receiving calls about smoke in the area of the I-393 underpass and South Commercial Street. Smoke flowed from the tracks, across the Interstate, and onto North Main Street. Police dispatch also sent an officer.

Several officers, at the time, were at a domestic incident at a Court Street apartment. One officer left and headed to the fire.

When the firefighters arrived, flames were burning around a table and chairs along the railroad tracks. While firefighters were extinguishing the fire, an officer checked the tents and the area looking for possible witnesses who could be questioned. He did not, however, find anyone.

Later, both the officer and firefighters cleared the scene.
