CONCORD, NH — It appears Penacook may have a firebug on its hands.

On Wednesday, two more incidents were reported at the Penacook Elementary School on Village Street.

A staffer at the school called the Capital Area Mutual Aid Fire Compact around 9:15 a.m. and reported smoke in the area of the parking lot.

Engine 5 checked the area and reported that the smoke appeared to be coming from behind the Manor Fire Station, not the school. After checking the area, firefighters cleared the scene around 9:30 a.m. reporting not finding any fire.

Engine 5 was sent back to the school around 4:30 p.m. after receiving another report about a fire in the area. Dispatch told firefighters a caller said a neighbor reported to them that they saw an outside fire near the school, but they were not on-site.

The first arriving firefighters confirmed a fire and began working to extinguish it. Concord police were sent later to the scene.

“Yeah, this is kind of suspicious,” the fire commander said, “so PD is also on the scene, too.”

The commander also requested fire prevention to the scene.

Cops asked their dispatch to contact the Merrimack Valley School District to start getting any video surveillance footage from the school.

On Monday, the gazebo at the school’s playground was set on fire around 1 a.m. and extinguished after about an hour. Forty-five minutes later, firefighters were sent to the Furniture Clearance Center on Village Street for a fire at the warehouse store.

Both fires have been deemed suspicious, although it is unknown if they are connected. The city of Concord Fire Marshal, the Concord Police Department, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the fires.
