CONCORD, NH — Concord firefighters put out another homeless camp fire underneath the Water Street bridge on Monday.

Just before 1:30 a.m., capital region dispatch began receiving calls about a possible fire in the area. It was first reported behind the Fairfield Inn on Gulf Street. A few minutes later, Concord police reported heavy black smoke coming from underneath the Water Street bridge.

Police reported trees were on fire, and the best access for firefighters would be from Gas Street.

Firefighters arrived, confirmed a camp was on fire, and stretched a line to tap water to extinguish the fire. Command told dispatch it was a 10-foot square area that was burning. They put the fire out and cleared the area around 2 a.m.

Concord firefighters have been sent to this homeless camp, noted for the "Welcome to Hell" sign-tarp seen at the site in 2020, repeatedly during the past few years.
