Concord High Students to Hold Group ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Tuesday

Event will be held to honor Principal Gene Connolly, who was recently stricken with the disease.

The ALS ice bucket challenge is all the rage right now with videos posted on the Internet and Facebook in an effort to raise awareness about Lou Gehrig’s disease, raise some money, and have a bit of fun, too.

For the Concord High School community, the issue hits a bit closer to home with the announcement in late July that Gene Connolly, the principal at the school, had contracted the disease. Since that time, a number of people have performed the ice bucket challenge in his honor, including folks over at the Beaver Meadow Golf Course.

And now, right before school starts, some students and others are getting into the act.

At 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, students and members of the Concord High School community will be joining together in a group ice bucket challenge at the Riverland Conservation Area in Canterbury (the area is located on Oxbow Pond Road at the end of Old Boyce Road off Route 4 just east of Exit 17, off I-93 at the line with Concord).

Kate Prentice is organizing the event with some help from Nick Skafidas and others. Participants are being asked to bring their own buckets, ice, and money for the donation jar that will go to an ALS charity.
