Concord Man Arrested for Choking Girlfriend

Report: Marshall Ross charged with felony second-degree assault; allegedly stomped on pit bull.

A Concord man has a court date later today after allegedly fighting with and assaulting his girlfriend as well as a dog, after she found him some part-time work.

Marshall L. Ross, 28, of Concord, was arrested a 9:43 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2013, and charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and criminal mischief (vandalism).

Officers were called to a domestic on Elm Street with a woman alleging that her boyfriend had choked her, according to a Concord Police arrest report.

Officers spoke with the woman and she alleged that the two had been arguing about not having any money. Earlier in the day, she reached out to a family member to see if that person had work for Ross who had been unemployed for some time and was not making a real effort to find employment, she reportedly told the officer. After lining up some work and telling Ross about it, he allegedly became angry, grabbed her shirt, and motioned to take a swing at her.

The woman broke away and the two continued yelling and throwing plates and cups at each other.

The woman reportedly told the officer that she said to Ross, something to the effect that this was why his family didn’t want him, and he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and pushed her into a counter. She stated she couldn’t breath as Ross allegedly choked her.

The woman tried to break away and a pit bull reportedly came at Ross and he reportedly began stomping on the dog. Later, she took Ross’ keys and threw them outside, in an attempt to get him to leave, and then called police.

An officer spoke with Ross who allegedly admitted that the two were arguing but claimed that the woman came at him and he couldn’t control her any other way than grabbing her by the neck. He allegedly told the officer he didn’t think it was right that he had to go out and work while she was sitting home collecting disability, the officer stated.

Ross added, according to the report, that her alimony was short, causing the electricity to be turned off earlier in the week.

He was arrested and then, allegedly became upset, saying he was the victim and his girlfriend should be arrested. He’s due in court on Jan. 13.
