CONCORD, NH — A Concord man is facing felony and assault charges after an incident on East Side Drive in Concord.

On Dec. 7, 2020, officers were sent to an apartment on the heights for a report of a disturbance. A 911 caller requested assistance after reporting a man was "trying to kill" a woman.

Officers and a sergeant arrived and found four occupants of the home, who were outside, and spoke to one who stated a man, later identified as Joseph Cusumano, 44, of East Side Drive in Concord, was trying to hit the woman with a baseball bat.

Officers entered the apartment and requested Cusumano's presence. He, however, became "argumentative," and refused to come downstairs and speak with police, the affidavit stated. Eventually, they spoke to him and a woman about what happened.

Cusumano, the reporting officer said, was "hard to follow at times because he talked in circles." Later, he explained the relationship dynamics and denied threatening anyone with a bat.

The woman, however, disagreed with his statements.

She said the argument was about people coming over and mistreating the apartment and him refusing to help clean. During the argument, Cusumano "swung at her" and she pulled away, the affidavit stated. He then started hitting her with a belt, the report said.

Cusumano was then accused of threatening her with the bat and hitting the door frame of a room. The victim said it would be difficult to see the damage to the door frame since "it has been hit so many times before," the report stated.

The victim denied the relationship dynamics — which may have contributed to Cusumano's fury, she said, adding she had enough.

The officer noted a mark on the woman's face which she said came from Cusumano's hand, the affidavit noted.
