Concord Market Baskets Now Selling PAYT Bags
Concord Market Baskets are now pay-as-you-throw trash bag retailers with the City of Concord!
Market Basket at 80 Storrs Street and Market Basket at 108 Fort Eddy Road are both now carrying purple pay-as-you-throw (PAYT) trash bags!
Concord General Services is continuing to expand the market for pay-as-you-throw bags. At this time last year, there were 12 retailers who carried PAYT bags. There are now 20 locations where Concord residents can buy bags for curbside collection.
“One of our goals with the introduction of the Pay-As-You-Throw Program was to encourage residents to reduce waste and to increase recycling,” stated Adam Clark, Solid Waste Manager for the City of Concord. “Since the PAYT Program was introduced five years ago, trash tonnage has reduced by 40%, while recycling tonnage has increased by over 100%. Our current goal with the program is to provide a widespread availability of the bags at various locations throughout the city to increase the convenience of the program for residents.”
Concord General Services appreciates all of the retailers that carry PAYT bags. “We thank all of the locations that have worked with us to make sure these bags are stocked on the shelves. We hope residents find it easy to locate a retailer not too far from their doorstep,” said General Services Director, Chip Chesley.
