Concord NH Runaway Teen Shot And Killed In Rhode Island

CONCORD, NH — A student from Concord High School, who had been a reported runaway, was shot and killed in Rhode Island on Saturday morning.

Around 2:30 a.m., Providence, RI, police officers and fire and rescue teams were sent to the scene for a report of a shooting in the area of 61 March St., in the Chad Brown housing development. EMTs and firefighters staged for police at 58 June St., according to scanner chatter. The teen, dispatch said, was shot in the chest. The dispatcher told arriving first responders there was “a large disturbance in the background,” but CPR was in progress.

EMTs arrived just before 2:45 a.m. About five minutes later, the teen and an officer were taken to Rhode Island Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police said the 15-year-old was a runaway from New Hampshire. He was identified as Isiah Rosario, a freshman, who moved to the city toward the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Rosario had been missing for about two weeks, reported as a runaway. He was originally from Rhode Island. A watch commander for the Concord Police Department was not available for comment about the case.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley offered “our sincerest condolences to the family,” stating Providence police officers were actively investigating this incident.

“Any act of gun violence impacts our entire community, especially when it involves youth,” he said.

Police have not released more specifics — although homicide officers are working on the case.

According to WJAR-TV, a memorial has been created at the shooting scene. It featured sneakers tied to a tree and empty bottles of Hennessy cognac — a strange memorial for a slain teenager.
