Concord Police Investigating ‘Potential Threat’ At Bishop Brady
Update: The Catholic school was evacuated Tuesday afternoon because of a possible threat that was dispelled by police several hours later.
CONCORD, NH — Concord police are investigating a potential threat at Bishop Brady High School on Tuesday afternoon.
Around 1:15 p.m., police received a report of a possible threat toward the city’s Catholic high school, according to Lt. Thomas Yerkes of the Concord Police Department. They then contacted the school, which was evacuated around 1:30 p.m. Around 1:45 p.m., officers converged upon the school, located on Columbus Avenue, and set up a command post on Liberty Street. Officers searched the immediate area around the campus, including side streets and neighboring trails, before the school was evacuated.
After evacuating the school, police spoke with the principal, who was reportedly unaware of any incident, according to scanner chatter. A blood drive was reportedly being held at the school.

“The threat is currently being investigated by the Concord Police Department,” he said. “The school has been (completely) evacuated.”
Just before 2:30 p.m., the New Hampshire State Police K-9 unit arrived to search the building.
Parents were asked to pick up their children at the Boys & Girls Club and not go to the school, Yerkes said. Columbus Avenue between Penacook and Auburn streets was closed. Residents of the street were asked to park on Auburn Street and walk to their homes.
In an email to parents, Kathleen Murphy, the superintendent of schools for the Concord School District, said the threat against Brady was “a bomb scare” and “was determined to be false.” There was no indication, she added, SAU 8 schools were involved.
Around 3 p.m., police reported the second floor of the school was clear, according to scanner chatter. The first floor of the school was reportedly cleared at just before 3:15 p.m.
Yerkes said around 4:15 p.m. the threat against the school had been dispelled.
“There is no danger to the school, students, or staff as a result of this incident,” he said. “This incident remains an active and open investigation. The Concord police thanks the Concord community for its patience and cooperation during this incident.”
