Concord Police: 'Older' Woman Stuck Cookbooks Under Her Skirt
About $500 worth of Julia Child cookbooks are missing from Gibson's. Police think this woman stole them. Do you recognize her?
The Concord Regional Crimeline has issued an alert asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman who allegedly stole $500 worth of Julia Child cookbooks.
Police were sent to Gibson’s Bookstore on South Main Street in Concord on April 27, 2015, to investigate a past tense theft.
The manager of the store told police that there was an issue about the missing cookbooks. At first, the manager didn’t know if there was an inventory mixup or the books had been stolen. But after reviewing video, the store’s manager appeared to find a problem.

“Upon viewing video from April 7, 2015, it was discovered that an older woman had removed two books from the shelf and placed them under her skirt before exiting the store,” according to Lt. Timothy O’Malley, the criminal investigations commander for the department. “The manager reported that woman could be seen taking the books from the same section that holds Julia Child cook-books.”
The video showed the woman leaving the store while “holding something between her legs” based on the way she was walking. The woman was described as “older,” with white hair.
