Concord Soldiers during WWI at Concord Public Library

Join Byron Champlin on Tuesday, May 5 at 7 p.m.

Like most every other community in the nation, Concord was swept up in war fever on April 6, 1917, when the United States joined the Allies by declaring war on Germany and the other
Central Powers. By war’s end, some of the city’s young people, such as Dr. Robert O. Blood and Edward Brooks, had returned as heroes with promising futures. Others, like aviator Sidney Beauchamp and nurses Teresa Murphy and Lucy Fletcher gave their last full measure in Europe. This talk will look at events and personalities during the war years in Concord and will touch on research underway for a book-length study of the city during the war.
