Officers were called to Josiah Bartlett Road after hearing reports of a man and woman yelling at each other. The caller reported that they heard the name “Ian” being screamed out and it sounded like a heated argument.
When the first officer arrived, he could her a female yelling, “I just want to leave, that’s it, let me leave!,” according to the report. The officer looked around the corner of a garage into a backyard and saw the pair yelling at close proximity to each other.

The man, Bickford, was reportedly shirtless and before the officer could speak to him about the situation, allegedly admitted that he had consumed numerous beers. The officer reported that he smelled like alcohol.
Bickford allegedly told the officer that the problems all started when he changed the song on the stereo and they began yelling at each other about the music. The female, another teen, told Bickford she was walking home and attempted to leave.
“Ian said that he was concerned for her so he put both his arms around her and did not let her leave,” the officer alleged. “Ian demonstrated the action … I observed Ian making a hugging motion. He told me that he held her close so she could not leave. I asked why he did not let her leave. Ian said that he was afraid she would be in trouble for curfew or being out. He said he did not think she would be able to walk (home) safely.”
Bickford was reportedly covered in marks, scratches, and redness all over his body and reported told the officer that the marks were from relations earlier in the evening and not the domestic incident.
The officer spoke to the female who confirmed their previous interaction about an hour before was consensual. She made other allegations about the disturbance and admitted to having two beers even though she was underage, according to the report. The female confirmed that the argument started about a song but when she tried to leave, Bickford allegedly “physically did not let her leave.” They began to yell and she tried to walk away, but he allegedly wouldn’t let her, she stated.
After speaking with a parent at the scene, Bickford was arrested. He was scheduled to be arraigned in court earlier this week.
