An officer parked in the parking lot of Sam’s Convenience Store on Village Street reportedly saw a gray Honda Civic traveling east on Charles Street approaching Village at “what appeared to be a high rate of speed,” according to an arrest report. The vehicle continued east onto Village and then Summer Street, and “made no attempt to stop or even slow down.” As the car traveled south on Village Street, it nearly collided with another vehicle and then turned onto Charles Street traveling the wrong-way on a one-way street, the officer alleged.

The officer drove to catch up to the vehicle and stopped it at the intersection of Summer and Cross streets. The car was reportedly partially blocking the travel lane when it stopped, according to the officer.
As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver – Lindsay – reportedly began “crying hysterically” and “visibly shaken up,” stating that she was trying to get home after an argument with another person. The woman asked to exit the vehicle, was checked for weapons and allowed to leave the car, but continued to raise her voice and cry, reportedly stating that she knew she was going to be arrested. When asked why, she allegedly stated, “I don’t have a license.”

The officer was able to calm her down and learned that she hadn't had a license for 16 years, according to the report, and was not supposed to be driving. She reportedly stated that she was heading home from the American Legion. The officer alleged that she was giving off “a strong odor” of alcohol and had bloodshot, red, glassy eyes.
A check of her license yielded a suspension from Maine as well as a suspended financial responsibility status in New Hampshire. The officer allegedly tried to calm her down but she “continuously interrupted me and tried to speak over me, on several occasions saying, ‘Listen up son.’”
After field sobriety tests, she was arrested.
After traveling with her to headquarters and speaking with her in the cruiser, the officer decided to add an aggravated DWI charge to the docket.
After processing – which reportedly occurred without incident – the officer spoke to the owner of the Civic who stated that Lindsay didn’t have permission to take the vehicle and reportedly alleged that she had “quite a bit” of alcohol at the American Legion before leaving. The officer then added the consent charge.
Lindsay was arraigned on Aug. 30.
