Concord's Einstein Bros Bagels Not Closing

Corporate spokeswoman says Fort Eddy Road shop will remain open; 39 other locations closing.

The parent company of Einstein Bros. Bagels is closing up to 39 locations across the nation today as part of an effort to focus on profitable sites and ensure future growth, according to press reports.

However, the Concord location, the only one in New Hampshire, will remain open.

In a statement, the company said it was targeting “underperforming” locations but did not release a list of which restaurants are closing. Restaurant News reported that locations in 11 states – California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin – would be closing.

A spokeswoman confirmed yesterday that the Concord location would remain open and added that if customers did not see a sign on a restaurant door indicating that a location was closing, it meant that restaurant would remain open.

The chain was originally created by Boston Chicken/Boston Market, in an effort to create a national chain of breakfast restaurants. JAB Holding Company and BDT Capital Partners acquired the company last year. The private investment companies also own the Peet’s Coffee chain and Caribou Coffee Company.
