CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire Department of Corrections is mourning the loss of its long-time investigations K-9, Ryker, who died on Thursday due to cancer.

Ryker was a 10-year-old Belgian Malinois who began her career with the department in 2016, as one of its first K-9s, partnering with Deputy Chief Chris Ward, the department said.

“During that time,” the department said, “Ryker was instrumental in the prevention and detection of contraband throughout the department, aiding in numerous felony level drug cases. Ryker’s drive and desire to work was unmatched — and she frequently provided assistance to outside agencies throughout the state.”
