Court Doc: Concord Man Threatened Girlfriend with Knife

Tae Cook was arrested recently on numerous charges including second-degree assault, marijuana possession, and failure to pay fine.

A local man with a string of previous run-ins with police was arrested again last month after allegedly choking and threatening to stab his girlfriend on Loudon Road.

Tae D. Cook, 26, of Loudon Road in Concord, was arrested on Feb. 6, 2015, and charged with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of domestic violence-simple assault, criminal threatening, domestic violence-criminal threatening, all felonies, along with a possession of controlled drugs charge and a bench warrant.

According to a court affidavit, numerous officers and a sergeant were sent to an apartment on Loudon Road for a domestic disturbance at around 5 a.m.

Upon arrival, they spoke with a woman, who was crying hysterically, and alleged that her boyfriend assaulted her and threatened to stab her with a knife. She complained of neck pain and requested an ambulance.

While the victim was being secured, other officers entered the apartment to look for the man, later identified as Cook, and found clothes, DVDs, and other items strewn all over the hallway of the apartment building and a pile of items in front of the apartment door. Cook and his male roommate were inside and later separated.

Cook reportedly told police that he and the woman had been dating on and off for about 15 years. He stated that the night before, he went out to dinner with friends and stayed out late and didn’t get home until around 4 a.m. that morning. When he got home, they got into an argument about the time he was spending with friends, their financial problems, and she reportedly threatened to call DCYF on him, according to the report. Cook reportedly stated that he told her to leave his apartment and began throwing her stuff out in the hallway.

“Tae said that at no point was there any physical altercation between the two of them,” according to the reporting officer. “Tae reiterated that the argument was verbal only.”

Cook also allegedly denied any threats and stated that the argument took place in his bedroom. His roommate was on the couch in the living room during the fight, he reportedly told police.

The sergeant spoke with the victim who alleged that Cook had “stepped on her neck and pinned her to the ground, inhibiting her ability to breath.” He also allegedly pushed her against the wall and pointed a knife at her, according to the report. She tried to escape the fight but Cook allegedly pushed her into a bathroom and bathtub where he grabbed his throat and held onto her.

“Everything was going gray,” she described as she was being strangled.

While speaking with Cook, he reportedly requested his sweatshirt because he was cold. The sergeant, who had returned to Cook, grabbed a gray sweatshirt and asked if it was the one he was looking for and he reportedly stated that it was. The sergeant checked the pockets of the sweatshirt for weapons before handing it to Cook and allegedly found a bag of marijuana in it. Cook was then arrested.

Later, police learned that there was a bench warrant for Cook out of Concord District Court from July 2014 for nonpayment of fines on a fraudulent use of credit card charge, $351 cash to settle.

Back in 2013, according to state police, he was arrested in Merrimack for habitual offender, operating after a suspension. In 2011, he was arrested at the Red Apple Buffett on Loudon Road on a bench warrant. In July 2011, the Bow Police arrested him for being a habitual offender, according to the Concord Monitor.
