The officer found the vehicle and saw a small white dog that was awake but breathing heavily. The windows were opened by about two inches but the vehicle was “very warm” inside. The owner, Pouliotte, could not be located so the officer called a sergeant and the two decided to open the car and transfer the dog to the Pope Memorial SPCA. Pouliotte and his wife later arrived at the car and reportedly stated that the dog was in the car about a half an hour, not the entire two hours of the parking slip stamp. The officer countered that he had been at the car about 45 minutes and advised to leave the dog at home instead of leaving it in the car.
