CRIME LOG: Florida Woman Charged with DWI After Crash

The following information was supplied by the Concord Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Bruce W. Shampney, 54, of Concord, was arrested at 4 p.m. on Dec. 27, 2013, on a criminal mischief (vandalism). Officers were called to Concord Royal Gardens Apartments after a woman reported to police that her daughter sent her an emergency text message about a relationship issue. When officers arrived, the woman told them that she was fine but was concerned for her husband, Shampney, who had left the apartment with a shotgun after making threats. The woman reportedly told police that she was with a mutual friend of the couple and they were consoling each other due to family losses and her husband walked in on the two of them together. The woman said that her husband had gotten upset and allegedly threw some picture frames on the floor. She denied anything was going on and Shampney later left the home. Other officers caught up with Shampney on Jennings Drive with another family member. The other family member had taken the shotgun out of his truck for safe keeping, according to the report. A sergeant spoke with Shampney and reported that he was upset and shocked by the incident and thought his marriage might be over after more than 30 years, relating a completely different story to police than his wife had given. Shampney allegedly regretted some of the things he said during the interaction, according to the report, and was later arrested. He is due in court on Feb. 3.

Stephanie Gillespie, 35, of Coral Springs, FL, was arrested at 12:42 a.m. on Dec. 28, 2013, on a driving while intoxicated charge. An officer was called to the parking area of the Rumford Arms Apartment Complex on North Main Street for an impaired driver that reportedly hit another car in the parking lot. Another call came in about a woman, Gillespie, allegedly consuming a full bottle of Xanax pills after drinking and leaving Pine Crest Circle in a Toyota Rav 4. While another officer headed to that location, the officer on North Main Street went to the apartment building and found a man holding up a woman outside of a 2007 Rav 4. The man stated he was holding her up “so she would not fall.” The woman was requested to have a seat on the ground, which she did, while allegedly wobbling “back and forth, almost to the point of falling over,” the officer wrote. The officer alleged that she was “extremely lethargic and had trouble keeping her eyes open.” The officer tried questioning Gillespie but she allegedly had difficulty answering questions. Concord Fire and Rescue teams came to the scene and transported Gillespie to Concord Hospital. The man stated that he was a resident at the apartment and heard that his daughter’s vehicle was involved in an accident. The BMW had smashed a taillight. Gillespie allegedly was in the driver’s seat of the other vehicle, allegedly trying to restart it, but it was in reverse. The man put the car in park and removed the keys from the ignition. He later provided a written statement. At the hospital, the officer attempted to speak with Gillespie again but was allegedly unable to get much from her due to her incoherence. She agreed to a field sobriety test and was later arrested. Gillespie was released on $2,500 personal recognizance bail and had a court date on Jan. 13.
