CRTC Emergency Services Students Train From the Top

CFD Helps CRTC Emergency Services Students Get a Bird's Eye View of Their Future Career Path

The Concord Fire Department’s Tower 2 aerial ladder truck recently came to the Concord High School student and staff parking lot to give CRTC Emergency Services students a 100-foot view of their future career pathway.

Students were dressed in full firefighter gear, which they often do for training, and one-by-one they strapped on the safety harness, attached themselves to the guide rope and climbed to the top. "While many were nervous, they all were exhilarated to make it to the top," said CFD Lt. James Duckworth, a 25-year firefighter and the program’s instructor.

The CRTC Emergency Services program is the state’s largest high school training program of its kind, with 44 students enrolled this year (about a third female students) to gain a head start on the training and education needed to become firefighters, EMTs and other first responders. CRTC Emergency Services students can earn three college credits and a number of industry certifications (including EMT-Basic and Advanced certification, as well as Firefighter I), giving them a competitive edge as they move on from high school.

The good news is that there are still some openings available in the CRTC Emergency Services program for next fall’s classes. Students interested in exploring a career as a first responder can learn more about this program at our website, www.thecrtc.org/emergency-services. Students can apply through our website, or email at CRTC@sau8.org, or call our office at (603) 717-7654 for more information.
